Hypnotherapist Azad Khan explains:
“It must have been in 2015 that I asked my daughter if she would enjoy going to Rome with me for a long weekend. I thought it would be a great opportunity to explore the Eternal City with her and, of course, to have quiet time and attention for each other.
She initially reacted very enthusiastically but to my surprise, tears came to her eyes very quickly- these were, judging by her expression, not from joy. When I asked her what made her so sad, she told me, “You know I’ve been suffering from gluten allergy and irritable bowel syndrome (PDS) for a long time. The latter is getting worse and worse. I can’t trust my own bowels anymore. I already hardly dare to travel on public transportation. This limits me considerably . I really appreciate you inviting me to such a fantastic trip but I am already dreading the drive to Schiphol, let alone walking in Rome. I would love to go if I could get rid of my complaints.
Hearing this made me realize once again what a huge impact PDS has on her life!
Naturally, I was very eager to help her find a solution. On the Internet I found information about the amazing results with hypnotherapy for PDS (it is estimated that there are 500 000 patients in the Netherlands).
Timid of quackery and of the many empty promises I know from alternative healers, I continued my search for scientific evidence. What was my surprise…. there have been several publications since the 1980s (Prof. Whorwell of Manchester) of the last millennium on scientific studies of the positive results of hypnotherapy in PDS. A lot of research has also been done in the Netherlands by gastrointestinal-liver physicians such as, for example, from the Academic Medical Center(article Prof.Smout).
A common conclusion of all these studies is that hypnotherapy gives by far the best results, better than the regular drugs prescribed.
Enthusiastic about this treatment method, I advised my daughter to visit a hypnotherapist. The results were stunning. After some time my daughter indicated that she had almost 95% less complaints, gained more self-confidence and asked if I still had the trip to Rome in the bargain!
My long-standing interest in the possibilities of hypnotherapy was rekindled. I delved even further into it (what a vast resource the Internet is where hours of training, lectures and live demonstrations can be found) and saw the possibilities of hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is increasingly used worldwide to help people in a quick and efficient way. I wanted to be able to apply this therapy too!
Now, after training as a hypnotherapist and a master class in pediatric hypnosis, I have started training as a PDS therapist. I hope to soon be able to help people with PDS so that their quality of life improves.
The trip to Rome with my daughter was not only a very special experience but also led to a new and exciting journey into professional development that was surprising to me.”
