TENS treatment
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) uses electrical stimulation to relieve pain. Here are some key points:
Operation
TENS devices send tiny electrical impulses through the skin to nerves, which can reduce pain signals to the brain.
Applications
It is often used for chronic pain, arthritis, muscle pain, and postoperative pain.
Advantages
Non-invasive and drug-free, with few side effects.
Effectiveness
Results vary from person to person; consult with a healthcare professional for appropriate application and settings.
How does the treatment proceed?
You have been referred by your primary care physician or pain specialist. First, you will be explained what chronic pain is, how TENS works and what else you can do to better manage the pain.
You will learn how to connect the device and how to use it further. You will be given a device to take home for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, if you benefit from the therapy, an application is submitted to your health insurance company for reimbursement. In some cases, insurers do not reimburse for patches that need to be renewed regularly.
