Edema therapy aims to stimulate the lymphatic system through lymphatic drainage. In addition, the edema therapist may also apply fascia techniques, lymph taping, and/or bandaging. All this to stimulate or support lymph flow. A therapeutic elastic stocking may also be required.

When treating edema, it is important to move and not sit still too much. Especially light exercise such as walking and cycling activates the pump of the calf muscle.

The massage improves local circulation and removes the accumulation of fluids in the tissues. The treatment consists of a gentle circular massage on the lymphatic system. By stimulating the lymphatic system, fluid is drained and better distributed throughout the body.

Methods and
collaboration

After an intake and examination, we create a treatment plan that fits the child’s needs. We work closely with parents and other caregivers to provide optimal care. Our pediatric physical therapist Eveline Eigenhuis, she is present Tuesday through Friday.
